About Me

Elanne Kresser has been studying movement as a way of knowing the self for fifteen years.  This began as a profoundly personal path of healing, when, in her early twenties she began to recognize that she was living a life cut off from the body and scattered in the mind.  The study, and eventual performing and teaching of Contact Improvisation became a vehicle for knowing herself and learning to connect non-verbally with others.  She has taught Contact Improvisation and open movement classes to a varied population - from professional dancers to people who are deathly afraid of moving their bodies.  Always, her emphasis is on coming home to the self and finding the places within that are both soft and strong.  Elanne entered formal Zen practice in the Ordinary Mind lineage in 2000 and continues to be a student of Diane Eshin Rizzetto.  This practice permeates her work with people, her sense of respect for each being and the unique process of their unfolding.  Elanne has worked extensively with children and education.  She founded a home schooling center on Lasqueti Island in British Columbia and has worked as a pre-school teacher.  She is fascinated with human development and the extraordinary process each of us went through in order to learn all the basic yet extremely complex tasks of becoming ourselves.  It is this learning process that was so fundamental to our growth as children that she aspires to invoke in her work with individuals.  As a bodyworker she has trained in and practiced Jin Shin Do acupressure and Somatic Experiencing.  A debilitating back injury in 2003 led her to another doorway.  She discovered the work of Moshe Feldenkrais and the injury began to heal.  In the process came to see with greater clarity that her back injury was a great gift, demanding that she live in accord with her deepest values and dreams. Through Feldenkrais she discovered tools for healing the body and the mind, making space for the heart to reveal itself. Her back injury healed to the point that her she is now stronger and more resilient than ever, and her life changed in ways she could never have imagined.   She is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner and lives in Oakland, California with her husband and their chosen family.
